Download File Transfer Protocol (FTP) Program – Filezilla

This item was filled under [ Downloads, Internet ]

Before we can actually install the Wordpress Script, we need a program that will allow us to upload files from our computer to our webhost. File Transfer Protocol or FTP will allow you to simultaneously upload all types of files to you hosting account. There are a lot of free FTP programs that you download through the internet for free but I prefer using Filezilla. This is a reliable cross-platform graphical FTP, FTPS and SFTP client that has a lot of features and supports any computer operating system.

You can download the latest version of Filezilla from the official page of SourceForge.net, Filezilla Page. After downloading the setup file, follow these installation procedures:

  1. Open the setup file and choose your preferred language for installation. Agree to the License Terms and Agreement.
  2. Choose default values and settings for components and general settings.
  3. Browse for preferred destination for Filezilla. This is almost always Drive C:\Program Files\Filezilla.
  4. Click Next and wait for the program to install completely.

Once the program has been successfully installed, open the program. You will now create access from your computer to your webhost so that you can upload and download files to and from it. Open your site manager by Clicking File, the Site Manager or simply Ctrl + S.

Open Site Manager Filezilla

Add Site to Filezilla

Follow these steps to add a new site profile on your Filezilla:

  1. Click “New Site” then enter a name to distinguish your host or specific website domain.
  2. If you are adding access to the main domain in your hosting account, just input your domain under the “Host” field.
  3. Your Logontype should be set to Normal.
  4. Input the username and password for your hosting account. This is this the same as your username and password if you are adding your main domain name.
  5. Leave “Don’t save password” check box unchecked so that you can connect to your web host for your next use just by clicking connect.

There you go! You can now easily upload files to your web host or download files from it.
